Eli Broad was a child of immigrants and son of the Bronx who never forgot where he came from. He was a good friend and a wonderful and generous partner in so many of our philanthropic efforts, from education to the arts to gun safety. His devotion to improving public schools has made an enormous difference in the lives of millions of children, and his extraordinary support of the arts in his beloved Los Angeles shaped the city for the better and became a model for philanthropy across the nation. My heart goes out to Edye and the entire family.
